Enjoy the Gardens & Grounds at The Crichton
Open to the public all year round, The Crichton Estate has 85 acres of parkland boasting a rock garden, arboretum, and exquisite rose gardens, as well as plenty of open space and signposted walking routes. A stunning location to take a leisurely stroll, walk the dog, or enjoy a picnic, the gardens are beautifully maintained by The Crichton Trust gardeners all year round.
The Crichton also has playing fields and an abundance of open spaces which are great for a range of activities, from football to festivals. The Crichton is a great location for fitness and healthy living in the community and we encourage free use of the open spaces for those looking to get active or have fun.
Crichton Park Run takes place every Saturday morning and many leisure groups and individuals make use of the grounds for walking, jogging and cycling. It is free to visit The Crichton, however if you would like to organise an outdoor event for your group you must get in touch with the Venues Team and complete the Outdoor Event Application Form
Walks
The Crichton has a rich and fascinating heritage stemming back over a hundred years and our Heritage Walking Routes are a great way to enjoy a fun and educational tour of the estate. The walks pick out the points of interest across The Crichton and can take between 30 minutes and an hour to walk.
To keep the kids entertained, pick up one of our walking route leaflets which includes a quiz with questions which can be answered from information boards along the route.

Don’t forget to look out for The Crichton Tree of Tranquility on your travels. This is a beautiful and special tree of remembrance located within The Crichton Gardens.
If you are looking for something relaxing to do as you explore the grounds, check out details of The Crichton Mindfulness Trail. As you tour the estate, look out for Totem Latamat. Active Travel at The Crichton
It is possible to travel to, from and around The Crichton on foot and on a bicycle. As part of our Active Travel campaign, we would love to see more of our visitors and regulars doing just that; if you are able, leave the car at home and get active! You will feel the benefit of fresh air and exercise, and you’ll be doing your bit for the planet too. Cycle racks are located across the estate including outside our cafes and restaurants.
With cycling such a popular pastime in Dumfries and Galloway, the roads and pathways make for a scenic cycle route or training ground through the estate or as part of a longer route through Dumfries.
