SUPPORT FOR VENUES AND EVENTS SECTOR

12 August 2020

On Tuesday 11 August, many venues across the country turned red as part of the #LightItInRed and #WeMakeEvents campaign to support the events sector and all those who work in it.

With the ongoing risk of Covid-19 and the restrictions in place to minimise the risks from large gatherings, it’s a particularly tough time for venues and the events sector.  Whilst they recognise and support the need to keep everyone safe, venues, suppliers, promoters, performers and freelancers are behind the Light It In Red campaign which is an attempt to attract the support they need to survive the pandemic.

Easterbrook Hall at The Crichton in Dumfries was one of the local venues to turn red in support of the campaign and Gwilym Gibbons, Chief Executive of The Crichton Trust said:

“Easterbook Hall like so many venues across Scotland and the UK, have been the places of gatherings and the making of memories that bond our communities together. They have been a vital part of our lives whether that be places for celebrations, concerts and conferences, these places make connections between people: audience, speaker and performer which inspire and challenge us. These connections fuel our economy and our sense of who we are as a community.  We need our venues, events and festivals which depend on the highly skilled teams of people who put on the show. These people need support more than ever before, without help now there will be no sector to rebuild.”

The Crichton Trust would like to acknowledge the support of Chris Gemmell from SVL Hire Limited, Graeme Henderson from Easterbrook Hall and Steve and Abby from Purplebox Productions for doing a fantastic job of turning Easterbrook Hall red this week. Thanks also to Mike Bolam Photography for capturing the moment.
