Family Cycling Festival at The Crichton

Where: The Crichton Estate (visit Crichton Central on the day to find out more about what’s on)
What time: 11am to 3pm 
Who: The Crichton Trust working in partnership with local organisations 

Come and join us at The Crichton Estate for a day of free cycling fun before the UCI Cycling World Championships come to town! Explore The Crichton via bike on our treasure hunt, take part in one of our skill sessions, try out an e-bikes, get your bike security marked and safety checked, or learn more about local cycle groups and how to plan family-friendly routes. There’s plenty to do and something for all the family, and the first 50 people who arrive via bike will get free ice cream!  

Refreshments and lunch are available at Crichton Central café, where we will also be streaming the UCI Cycling World Championships all-day. 

Children should be accompanied by an adult at all times.  

Activities on the day: 

  • First 50 people who cycle to the event get a free ice cream  
  • Join some fun cycle skills and games sessions
  • Learn to ride a bike
  • Get your bike marked for free  
  • Come and try sessions with e-bikes and e-trikes
  • Cycling treasure hunt around The Crichton with a prize draw for a family-friendly prize 
  • Live streaming of UCI races and events all day at Crichton Central  
  • Free bike safety checks plus a tweak and a tune  
  • Good quality refurbished second-hand bikes for sale from the Bike Shed, our local bike recycling project  
  • Meet the Let’s Get Biking team, hear all about the work they do in the region and have a chance to try their adapted bikes 
  • Meet the Cycling Dumfries team and join a cycling Dumfries 5-mile led ride at 2.30 pm leaving from Crichton Central. Find out about the work they do and get advice on route planning
