Join Emily Smith and Jamie McClennan in the Crichton Memorial Church for an evening of new songs, music and conversation inspired by the experiences of patients and staff at the former Crichton Royal.

The songs were written for ‘Up the Middle Road: Crichton stories of resilience and recovery’, part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022, directed by Dr Valentina Bold, Heritage Officer with the Crichton Trust.

The music was composed by Angus Mackay, Queen Victoria’s piper and a former Crichton patient.

Dr Bold will join Smith and McClennan in conversation, to explore the making – and significance – of this work.

The event is part of an Open University symposium, exploring the history of creativity at the Crichton Royal, and is jointly sponsored by The Crichton Foundation and The Open University in Scotland.

Event Notes

Please note if you are attending the OU Symposium, you are not required to purchase a ticket for this event.
