Gold, cairngorms, amethysts, Celtic knotwork, thistles, agates… The romance of Scottish jewellery is played out through stories from Mary, Queen of  Scots to Queen Victoria. Claire Blatherwick illustrates the craft of Scotland’s goldsmiths and jewellers through close-ups from private collections, and public portraits ostentatiously displaying a family’s wealth.  She provides a great insight into the proud history of the nation’s goldsmithing and the story of jewellery and personal adornment in Scotland.

Claire Blatherwick is an independent jewellery consultant based in Scotland. She has over twenty years of experience in the jewellery business, ten of which were spent as Head of Jewellery for Bonhams in Scotland, a role which saw her travel internationally searching for wonderful jewels to be auctioned around the globe. She has a keen interest in the historical aspect of jewellery and has lectured extensively on her subject as well as having appeared on various TV programmes in the UK and US as a jewellery expert. She is also a member of The Society of Jewellery Historians.

Lecture is part of a series hosted by The Arts Society Dumfries to find our more visit their website: https://tasdag.org.uk/
