‘The Most Exalted and Prodigal Magnificence’: Filippo Brunelleschi and the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore by Ross King

 

The dome of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence presented the most daunting architectural puzzle of the age. A puzzle solved with extraordinary ingenuity by Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446) as he successfully executed what is still the world’s largest masonry dome.
