THE CRICHTON DEFIB CAMPAIGN

The Crichton Defib Campaign is coming to an end, so we thought we would re-cap on what has been achieved to date and to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign.

The Crichton Defib Campaign was inspired by the life-saving actions of Kenny Henry, employee of The Crichton Trust. Following his experience Kenny encouraged The Crichton Trust to make some changes at The Crichton, and we have!

Kenny was passionate about the need to raise awareness of defibrillators and to make them more accessible. He also wanted to encourage those who have defibs to make sure they are registered and maintained. Kenny valued the training he had done with a previous employer and was therefore keen to see more people doing CPR and defib training. As a Trust, we got behind this campaign and we have made some good progress over the last couple of months.

WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED AS A RESULT OF THE CRICHTON DEFIB CAMPAIGN?

  • The Crichton Trust relocated their defib to a more accessible location outside Easterbrook Hall and purchased a secure cabinet to ensure it is protected and accessible to the public 24-7
  • The Crichton Trust was successful in winning an additional defib and cabinet through The Boyd Group’s Anniversary Competition. This defib is now accessible 24-7 and is located outside Crichton Central
  • Kenny has proactively registered The Crichton Trust defibs with the Scottish Ambulance Service and The Circuit (National Defibrillator Network) so that they can be located in an emergency
  • The Boyd Group also supported the campaign by offering a promotional rate to any tenants and partners who wanted to purchase a defib and/or cabinet during the campaign period (to end of September). This resulted in both Holiday Inn Dumfries and The Crichton Golf Club purchasing defibs, both of which are now accessible 24-7 in the hotel reception and outside the Clubhouse.
  • The Crichton Trust also carried out an audit to identify the location of existing defibs at The Crichton. The following organisations at The Crichton have defibs (accessible during opening hours):University of the West of Scotland (Browne House and Dudgeon House), University of Glasgow (Rutherford McCowan), the Veterans Garden Dumfries, South of Scotland Enterprise (Carmont) and Dumfries and Galloway College.
  • The Crichton Trust also ran a Just Giving Campaign to raise funds for another publicly accessible defib and cabinet for the grounds of The Crichton and thanks to the very generous support of tenants, partners, suppliers and members of the public, another defib is now on order and will be installed soon. Thank you to all those who contributed including The Crichton Foundation and many anonymous donors for their kind donations.
  • The Crichton Trust has also hosted three very successful training days for staff and tenants which were delivered by The Boyd Group and well received by those who participated.
  • Details of the campaign have been published in numerous publications, local newspapers and radio stations, which we hope will have helped raise awareness in the wider community too.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this campaign and to Kenny and The Boyd Group for all their support.
