The Crichton Trust appoints Ivar Milligan as new Chief Executive

The Crichton Trust has announced the appointment of Ivar Milligan as its new Chief Executive, succeeding Gwilym Gibbons.
Ivar brings more than 15 years of senior leadership experience across the charity, commercial and public-interest sectors, with a strong track record in organisational leadership, governance, operational delivery and financial resilience. Most recently, he has served as Chief Operating Officer at ICR Healthcare and, previously, as Chief Executive of the David Nott Foundation.
His appointment comes at an important time for The Crichton Trust as the organisation continues to build on recent financial recovery, strengthen its partnerships across The Crichton campus and wider region, and focus on long-term sustainability, development and future of the estate. Ivar joins The Crichton Trust team on Monday, 6th July 2026.
Dr David Hall, Chair of The Crichton Trust, said:
“We are delighted to appoint Ivar Milligan as Chief Executive of The Crichton Trust. He brings a strong combination of strategic leadership, operational experience and a clear understanding of the importance of partnership working, financial discipline and organisational resilience. The Board is confident he has the skills and leadership qualities needed to guide The Crichton through its next phase of development, while building on the foundations laid by Gwilym Gibbons.”
Ivar Milligan said:
“It is a great privilege to be appointed Chief Executive of The Crichton Trust. The Crichton is a unique and important asset for Dumfries and Galloway, with a powerful role to play in further education, enterprise, heritage, culture and community life. I am looking forward to working with the Board, staff, partners and stakeholders to build on the progress already made and to support a strong, sustainable future for The Crichton.”
The Trust also paid tribute to outgoing Chief Executive Gwilym Gibbons for his contribution and leadership and thanked him for his service to the organisation.
