John has held the role of Chief Operating Officer of NHS Scotland since July 2021. He oversees national health performance and delivery, including unscheduled and elective care, NHS resilience and emergency planning and winter and pandemic preparedness.

With more than 38 years’ experience across NHS Scotland, and over 20 years in chief executive leadership roles, John brings deep operational insight and strategic expertise from across the Scottish health system.
