Part of the RSGS Inspiring People talks programme. Colin Ballantyne – Scotland’s Mountain Landscapes: A Geomorphological Odyssey

Scotland’s mountain landscapes are remarkably diverse, encompassing the isolated sandstone summits of the far north-west, the serrated ridges of Skye, the tor-studded granite plateaux of the Cairngorms, and the rolling hills of the Southern Uplands. Born on ancient continents and uplifted by tectonic forces, the mountains of Scotland have been sculpted by successive glaciers and ice sheets, landslides, frost, wind and rivers. Colin Ballantyne embarks on a journey through time to explore their geological evolution, the effects of glaciation, the ways in which they have changed since the end of the Ice Age, and the processes that are altering them today.

Tickets are available through Eventbrite or on the door; RSGS Members and students are entitled to free entry on the door – all subject to availability.
