Leisure & Accommodation

Among the acres of parkland and outdoor spaces, The Crichton is home to a Health Spa, Live Events venue, indoor swimming pool, hotel, restaurant and bistro, making it a perfect location for everything from walking the dog to a day of pampering. Discover the enchanting rock gardens, stunning scenery and an intriguing history. The Crichton Estate has something for all the family to enjoy – all within walking distance of Dumfries town centre.  Plan your next visit and discover what the Crichton has to offer below…

Parkland & Walking Routes

The Crichton Estate is open to the public all year round. With 85 acres of parkland boasting a rock garden, complete with many specimen trees and plants, arboretum and exquisite rose gardens, the Estate offers a stunning location to take a leisurely stroll or walk the dog. The Estate also features playing fields and an abundance of open spaces which are great for a range of activities. Visually stunning and historically interesting, the Crichton grounds make the ideal backdrop for creative projects, weddings and private events.

The Crichton has a rich and fascinating heritage stemming back over a hundred years. Our Heritage Walking Routes are a great opportunity for a fun and educational tour of the Estate. The walks pick out the points of interest across the Estate and can take between 30 minutes and an hour to walk. To keep the kids entertained, pick up one of our walking route leaflets which includes a quiz with questions which can be answered from information boards along the route.  Shorter sections between 10 and 20 minutes can be found at the University Campus, Business Park, Crichton Hall and gardens. The walk is fairly level, although, in the vicinity of Crichton Hall and Campbell House, there is a short incline of steps which can be avoided by taking the shortcuts.

Heritage Walks Leaflet

The Estate is a great location for fitness and healthy living in the community, with sporting clubs, Loreburn Archers and Normandy Football Club using the playing fields. A number of charity health events such as Run for Health and Dumfries Memory Walk use the Estate, with the Dumfries half marathon also starting at the Crichton. We encourage free use of the open spaces for those looking to get active or have fun. With cycling such a popular pastime in Dumfries and Galloway, the Estate’s roads and pathways make for a scenic cycle route to the nearby skatepark at Kingholm Quay.

Live Entertainment

Among the wonderful surroundings of the Crichton Estate sit a number historic buildings now used for live events, the largest of which is the impressive art deco Easterbrook Hall – the main live entertainments venue on the Estate which hosts a diverse range of gigs, performances and live events all year round, run by the Easterbrook Live team. Working with local and national performers, the Crichton now hosts classical concerts, comedy nights, live music as well as arts and theatre performances. These stunning performances, coupled with the restaurants and hotel on site, make the Crichton a great place for a night out.

Easterbrook Hall and areas on the grounds are available for private hire. The Easterbrook Team love to work with community initiatives, regularly working with charities to host events. If you have a charity event that you would like to host at Easterbrook Hall, please get in touch with the events team.
