University and College Campus
The Crichton is located on the outskirts of Dumfries, the largest town in Dumfries and Galloway. When visiting the Crichton Campus you’ll discover historic buildings with modern facilities set amongst beautiful and botanically interesting landscaped grounds – including rock garden, waterfall, rose garden and ornamental pond. The various Educational institutions at the Crichton offer a range of flexible full and part-time study opportunities in both Higher and Further education right here in Dumfries and Galloway. The stunning environment and diverse study options attract local, national and international students – be it school leavers or those returning to study in later years.
The Crichton Campus is a unique multi-institution campus set in the beautiful surroundings of the Crichton Estate. The Campus is home to University of Glasgow (UofG), the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) and the Open University (OU). In 2008, the decision to relocate the Dumfries and Galloway College in its magnificent new building at the South end of the site has created unique educational opportunities in both Further and Higher Education. The fifth academic partner, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), has had a presence on the Crichton Farm predating the other academic partners by several years.
Life Beyond the Books
The Crichton University Campus Student Association (CUCSA) represents students studying at the Crichton Campus. They are the social hub for events, sports and info in Dumfries for students from The University of Glasgow and The University of the West of Scotland at Crichton. You can find out more about CUCSA through their website: www.cucsa.org.uk or keep up-to-date by liking their Facebook.
The Crichton Campus is within walking distance of Dumfries town centre (just under two miles) with buses running regularly between the campus and the town. In Dumfries you’ll find many bars, pubs and cafes along with shopping on the high street and retail parks on the outskirts of the town. Living in the University Town of Dumfries, you’ll feel part of the local and regional community while developing a fantastic range of skills and contacts.
On the Crichton Campus there are many facilities within the Colleges and Universities available for students to use. The Workout is a gym located in Dumfries and Galloway College which can be used by College learners and students from the partner universities. D&G College also houses Zest, a student run restaurant and bar which gives hospitality students the opportunity to train in a real life working environment – The Hospitality staff and Students are looking forward to welcoming you to dine with them this term. The Crichton Library combines the collections of three partner institutions on the Dumfries Campus: the University of Glasgow, University of the West of Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway College. It is located in the Dumfries & Galloway College Building and provides library services for all students and staff on the campus.
